August 19, 2008: The End of Vacation

Mike and I were so sad to leave our beautiful hotel this morning, but made sure to indulge in breakfast before leaving the island.  I had basically the same thing as yesterday, except had a bagel instead of the artisan bread (bad choice, in retrospect- one should ALWAYS choose artisan bread over packaged bagels!) with peanut butter and honey, and did not have champagne.  The fish was just as delicious again!

Hmmm… bluefish.

We made good time getting on the ferry and driving through New England, then stopped in NJ for gas and lunch.  We had really limited options so I did my very best to get something balanced.  I had a whole grain bagel with lite chive cream cheese from Dunkin Donuts, and a fruit/yogurt parfait (sans granola) from a convenience store.

The bagel was actually quite doughy and delicious!  I also munched on some veggies in this cup.  It was full but I forgot to take a pic before I dug in.

I also managed to consume copious amounts of Diet Coke this vacation.  Yuck.  I’m addicted!  Later in the car ride, I got a little hungry so munched on a Kashi Bar.

Finally home, we made dinner.  I had a big salad with honey mustard dressing, and tofurkey on a whole wheat pita with lettuce, tomato, hot sauce, and more honey mustard.  I was dying for something healthy and light, and this was perfect!

I ended up having another bowl of salad.  Was I ever craving crunch/fiber!

We definitely had the best vacation imaginable.  All in all, I did a good job being moderate on the alcohol, and did my best to get in fruits and veggies where I could.  I certainly could have done better with protein, but made sure to indulge in some really wonderful treats (desserts, fries, etc.) and thoroughly enjoyed them.  I don’t feel a bit of guilt about my choices on vacation and am returning to “normal” with a clear head.  Thanks for reading all about my travels and food.  I hope I will be inspired to do some seafood in the future to remember such a wonderful few days!
