August 18, 2008: One More Day on the Island…

Waking up in a beautiful historic hotel with the ocean breeze streaming in your windows is a wonderful start to your day!  Even better is the promise of a delicious homemade breakfast.  Our hotel featured a full buffet breakfast each morning while sitting out on the patio.  I had some green tea, fresh fruit, artisan whole grain bread with 1 T. peanut butter and honey, and a few bites of freshly caught bluefish.  I was so spoiled when my family lived in New England to eat fresh fish like this all the time- it is nothing like what I get down in DC!

Accompanied, of course, by a glass of champagne!  Drinking in the morning is probably never a good idea, but when in Rome…

We enjoyed more time at the beach and even went bike riding around the island before stopping for some ice cream!  I had fat free frozen yogurt in strawberry and chocolate with some cherries and peanut butter cups on top.  I got the “double” size.  Nothing says “vacation” like an ice cream lunch!

We had another wonderful dinner again at the National Hotel while gazing upon the ocean…

We started with some great crusty bread…

And I ordered the lobster salad- and gave the little breadlette to Mike.  This was a huge bowl of mixed greens with lobster meat, mayonnaise, and celery on top.  TO DIE FOR.  Lobster may be one of the most delicious things on the planet.

I also ordered a side of pommes frites, which were phenomenal.  The picture doesn’t show it, but the other side of this tower had homemade tartar sauce.  Mike and I shared the order and I dunked every fry in this tangy, unhealthy sauce.  I realize I have had a lot of fries this vacation but they are certainly my vacation junk food of choice, and I have loved eating them!  Well worth the calories!

Another perfect night!
